The Regional Job Fair (RJF) 2026, held in Gelephu, marked a decisive inflection point in Bhutan’s employment journey, reinforcing the nation’s strategic commitment to achieving Full Employment by 2029. Convened under the theme “Rethinking Employment Narrative and Empowered Engagement,” the fair transcended the traditional job-matching model to deliver a future-facing ecosystem of opportunity, skills, and aspiration.
The Gelephu Regional Office of Industry, Commerce, and Employment, in collaboration with Trongsa & Mongar Region, the event operationalized the Ministry’s Triple Gem strategy precision job matching, scaling high-value employment pathways, and strengthening labour market intelligence.
The fair attracted 790 job seekers and 83 employers, offering 402 vacancies across hospitality, technical, industrial, construction, and service sectors. A standout outcome was more than 92 on-the-spot recruitments, underscoring the fair’s effectiveness as a real-time bridge between talent and market demand.
Beyond recruitment, RJF 2026 delivered a holistic engagement experience. Participants accessed career guidance, training and upskilling pathways, entrepreneurship insights, and direct interaction with industry leaders. Cultural elements including an Open Dance Competition and live performances reinforced a people-first philosophy, engaging individuals beyond the résumé.
Participation reflected strong inclusivity, with women comprising 54.4% of attendees and a diverse mix of educational backgrounds from secondary school graduates to degree holders and vocational trainees. High interest in training opportunities highlighted a workforce eager to upskill and adapt to evolving labour market needs.
The fair featured 18 strategically curated booths, bringing together vocational and technical institutes, employers, industry associations, government service counters, and community groups creating a one-stop employment and career development platform.
Speaking at the event, Dasho Thrompon, the Chief Guest emphasized that the Regional Job Fair is no longer just an event, but a policy instrument reshaping how Bhutanese citizens engage with work, skills, and career-building in a dynamic economy.
Although the Bhutan Broadcasting Service (BBS) was unable to cover the Regional Job Fair 2026 on the day of the event, the initiative received national media exposure the following day through a feature on Tshanglha Nazhen Layrim. The program highlighted the why, what, and how of the Regional Job Fair, explaining its objectives, implementation approach, and overall outcomes, while reflecting on how the event performed on the ground. This coverage significantly amplified public awareness and reinforced the strategic relevance of the job fair within Bhutan’s evolving employment and workforce development agenda.
As the Regional Job Fair model is set to be replicated across the country, RJF 2026 in Gelephu stands as a bold proof of concept: data-driven, inclusive, and aligned with Bhutan’s aspirations for economic self-reliance and empowered citizenry.
