Press Release: World Entrepreneurs’ Day 2025 Celebrated in Thimphu with Startup Showcases and Innovation

The Department of Employment and Entrepreneurship (DoEE) under the Ministry of Industry, Commerce and Employment celebrated the World Entrepreneurs’ Day in Thimphu through a collaborative effort of the Startup Centre, Changzamtog and Entrepreneur Bhutan.

The event brought together around 80 people, including 46 startups, entrepreneurs, members of the business community, and officials from the Ministry of Agriculture and Livestock, the Loden Foundation, and the DoEE.

The occasion was graced by Hon’ble Lyonpo Yonten Phuntsho, Minister of Agriculture and Livestock. In his speech, Lyonpo highlighted the important role of entrepreneurs in Bhutan’s economy. He said, “Entrepreneurs matter because they create jobs, diversify the economy, and inspire innovation.” He encouraged young Bhutanese to take risks, be innovative, and work with determination to solve challenges such as youth unemployment and sustainable growth.

Several new initiatives were launched during the event. The Startup Magazine Alumni Edition (2018–2023) and Startup Profile magazine 2025 was introduced to highlight the progress of startups that graduated from the Startup Centre. Entrepreneur Weekly Magazine published by Entrepreneur Bhutan, was also launched to regularly share stories, insights, and opportunities for startups.

The event also featured product launches from Startups, including eco-friendly nettle products – bags and rugs, locally produced wine, ginger candy from Pure Bhutan, and frozen Momo products. These products reflected the creativity and innovation of Bhutan’s entrepreneurs across food, lifestyle, and sustainable businesses.

The celebration included a cake-cutting ceremony and high tea, bringing together participants in a spirit of strength and unity. Gift hampers with startup products were presented to guests, followed by group photographs.

The program ended with a food-tasting and networking session, where participants sampled startup products and exchanged ideas for future collaboration. This created an opportunity for stronger collaboration between entrepreneurs, government, and the business community.

World Entrepreneurs’ Day is observed globally on 21 August to promote innovation, creativity, and leadership. In Bhutan, the day holds special meaning as the country works to diversify its economy, create jobs, and empower youth. This year’s celebration highlighted the growing strength of Bhutan’s entrepreneurial community and reaffirmed the vision of building a dynamic and sustainable economy through innovation.
