Press Release: Brand Bhutan Certificate Award Ceremony

The Department of Trade, Ministry of Industry, Commerce and Employment (MoICE), held the Brand Bhutan Certificate Award Ceremony on 16 June 2025 at the Brand Bhutan Store in Changzamtog, Thimphu, to formally present the Made in Bhutan (MIB) and Grown in Bhutan (GIB) certificates to qualified producers.

The Brand Bhutan certification system is a government-led initiative aimed at strengthening the identity, quality, and competitiveness of Bhutanese products in both domestic and international markets. It seeks to encourage local producers to meet defined product standards, enhance branding consistency, and support export diversification.

The event was attended by the Hon’ble Secretary of MoICE, the Director of the Department of Trade, officials from relevant agencies, private sector representatives, and certificate recipients.

A total of five  producers received certifications for their products under the GIB (14 products) and MIB marks(1 product), following a formal evaluation and approval process:

  • Druk Metho: GIB certification for Bhutanese Organic Turmeric and Bhutanese Organic Ginger

  • Bhutan Organics: GIB certification for Tarbu Pure, Tarbu Ready, Tarbu Squash, and Tarbu Syrups

  • Menjong Sorig Pharmaceuticals Corporation Limited: GIB certification for Yungwa Turmeric Capsule and Black Turmeric Capsule; MIB certification for Safflower & Cinnamon Herbal Tea

  • Samdrupcholing Zangja Tshongley Detshen: GIB certification for Green Tea, Oolong Tea, and Black Tea

  • Bhutan Agro Industries Limited: GIB certification for Pure Apple Juice, Pineapple Slices, and Strawberry Jam.

Each product underwent a rigorous process of technical assessment, site validation, and review by the multi-stakeholder Brand Bhutan Committee. Certified products have met the required criteria in terms of origin, quality, and alignment with Bhutan’s national identity and values.

Till date, 79 products have been certified under the Made in Bhutan mark and 21 products under the Grown in Bhutan mark. The Department of Trade organizes such events periodically to recognize producers committed to quality and innovation, and to promote Bhutanese products in regional and global markets.

The Department continues to encourage interested producers to apply for the Brand Bhutan mark as part of its broader efforts to promote high-quality, locally made goods and support economic diversification through trade.
