Press Release on 6th BIMSTEC Summit, Bangkok Thailand

The Free Trade Agreement (FTA) between Bhutan and Thailand was signed on April 3, 2025, on the sidelines of the 6th BIMSTEC Summit held in Bangkok, Thailand. The agreement was signed by Lyonpo Namgyal Dorji, Minister of Industry, Commerce, and Employment, Bhutan, and H.E Pichai Naripthaphan, Minister of Commerce, Thailand. The signing ceremony took place in the presence of the Hon’ble Prime Minister Tshering Tobgay and Hon’ble Prime Minister Paetongtarn Shinawatra at the Government House in Bangkok.

The signing of the FTA comes after four rounds of negotiations completed within a span of nine months and will provide duty-free market access for Bhutanese exports to Thailand.  The FTA is expected to pave the way for a more seamless and mutually beneficial trade reflecting the shared vision of Bhutan and Thailand to deepen economic ties and enhance bilateral trade. Trade between the two countries has grown steadily over the years with total trade in goods accounting for US$ 31 million in 2024.Top of Form
