As part of the Weaving into the Future Program (WFP) funded by the William Geiger Family Foundation Inc., (WGFF), the Royal Textile Academy of Bhutan (RTAB) in collaboration with the Department of Technical Education (DTE) under Ministry of Labor and Human Resources (MoLHR) is conducting a weaving program on ‘Hor’ as part of the SDP (Skills Development Program). The three-month program that started on November 18, 2022 in Rinchengang village, Wangdue Phodrang with 15 participants will officially end on February 17, 2023.
The training will include starching of yarns, rolling into balls, preparing warp, and adding finishing details to the pieces so that the finished product is of standard quality. Upon completing the course, the trainees will be equipped with the set of skills required in weaving Hor patterns starting from three crosshatches until nine crosshatches.
The main objective of providing such training is to help improve the quality of life in the rural community by providing skills to generate income while also promoting and preserving our traditional art of weaving.
