The Department of Employment and Entrepreneurship celebrates the inaugural winners of Bhutan New Venture Challenge through #InspireTheNextVenturer series.
Today we take a look at “Bammung”, a business that grows mushrooms in a sustainable manner from Yurung Central School in Pemagatshel Dzongkhag. The group of five students who participated in the BNVC 2020 edition under the student category managed to secure the third position and won Nu. 100,000 as cash prize.
The students along with the school management used the cash prize to establish the Bammung venture and has already started to grow mushrooms.

Bammung venture is today operated and managed by groups of students with guidance from the management of the school and are hopeful to sell their product beyond the school mess. The venture was formally launched by the Director General of the Department along with officials from Entrepreneurship Promotion Division on 13 November, 2021.

Bammung venture shows that there is always a market, if you really look for one. The revenue generated from the sale of mushrooms will be taken by the students who run the business after meeting their utility expenses. The Department applauds the entrepreneurial spirit of the students and teachers behind Bammung and hopes that they will inspire others to explore their entrepreneurial potential.
