A total of 18 youths (14 in Tailoring and 4 in Shingtshen) attended the four months skilling course in Tailoring and three months in Traditional painting at the College of Zorig Chusum, Trashiyangtse. These two certificate courses were initiated with the objective of imparting the skills and knowledge to the youths/jobseekers, laid-off employees, oversea returnees and those who are affected by the pandemic.

In addition to the certificate course, 15 day Basic Entrepreneurship Course was also provided separately to participants of both the courses. This was done to impart some business ideas to the participants in order to promote self-employment and to generate more employment opportunities. This group of the participants are the first group of youths to graduate from the college after implementation of Skills Development Program (SDP). The college will provide more skills training for those interested in various field of Traditional Arts and Crafts. Similarly, various skills training are underway in Technical Training Institutes and Public institutes across the country.

The SDP was started after receiving the Royal command to mitigate the socio-economic impacts caused by the pandemic. A two-years skilling program (2021-2023) is also envisioned to respond to challenges posed by pandemic and to enhance the country’s economic resilience in the post-pandemic situation. The program also seeks to address the shortage of skilled workforce in different economic sectors by providing relevant and high-quality training aligned to the need of the country. In collaboration with public institutes and training centres, the ministry will continue providing skilling opportunities to youths as per the market demand
